Early Dental Care
Good Habits are formed young.
Your child's first dental visit may be in a room set up just for our youngest patients. A sofa and mobile dental unit will put your child at ease and make for a quick and easy dental examination.
We want to keep your child's smile bright and healthy, so continuing care and preventative routine cleanings are important to us. We work to earn your trust as we discuss teeth in connection to diet and nutrition, dental x-rays, preventative measures such as sealants and fluoride, as well as early caries detection and diagnosis.
Advanced, proven technology.
Through the utilization of dental lasers we are able to avoid needles and anesthetizing the oral cavity in most dental procedures. This advanced dental technology is exactly what you think - no shot dentistry!
Dental lasers allow for pain free tooth repair and in surgical procedures, there is little to no bleeding nor a need for sutures.
Lip and tongue tie procedures
Often first presenting itself with difficulty breastfeeding, tongue and lip ties can continue to be a concern as children grow with impacted speech development, trouble extending the tongue, and with sleep concerns.
Dr. Mike specializes in the diagnosis and correction of tongue and lip ties through laser frenectomies. Using a dental laser, bleeding and swelling is highly minimized and the child is able to nurse immediately. Dr. Mike is a leader in providing this service in Northern New England.
Patient comfort is top priority.
Patient comfort is a top priority at Dirigo Pediatric Dentistry and sedation dentistry can ensure comfort throughout treatment. We offer many different options for sedation dentistry and Dr. Mike and the team can discuss how to best serve your child and make recommendations for treatment based on your child’s restorative dental needs.
Examples of sedation dentistry include the use of nitrous oxide (laughing gas), oral medication which allows for conscious sedation, and IV sedation/general anesthesia both in office with a dental anesthesiologist and at nearby affiliated hospitals with pediatric anesthesiologists.
We have teamed up with Dr. Patrick McCarty, Dental Anesthesiologist, to provide in office IV sedation/general anesthesia. Dr. McCarty is based out of Boston, Massachusetts and has been providing mobile anesthesia services throughout New England since 2007. Dr. McCarty is Board Certified through the American Dental Board of Anesthesiology & the National Dental Board of Anesthesiology. For more information on Dr. Patrick McCarty, Dental Anesthesiologist, please visit his website.
Dr. Mike is also able to provide dental treatment under general anesthesia at Maine Medical Center, both at the Bramhall Campus and Scarborough Surgery Center.
